Kids on the Beach

Greetings from Hilton Head! If you're wondering what Hilton Head is. It is an island-type place off of South Carolina. There are many jellyfish here and the ocean is surprisingly nice. The sand is so flat you could ride a bike on it, really. The seafood is superb. I ate an entire bucket of crab legs the second night here! Hilton Head is also the setting for some of my favorite portraits.

Rineke Dijkstra did a series of photos called 'Beach Portraits'. They are very simple.  You have to look beyond their faces and fashion. They're posing yet not posing. The whole series is only of kids and it's interesting to look at the different responses each kid gives off with only a look.

Aren't those awesome? Some are in Hilton head, some aren't. Hilton Head doesn't have pebbles, so you can tell the ones which were taken here and not.

I'm sorry for not blogging ever. I'm going to warn you, I probably will not be blogging this year. I just got an internship at the MCA in Chicago. It's every Saturday for the next two years. I will try to write on sundays, but I cannot promise anything.
